Ethel R. Faulkner, 91, of Newport, RI and Lenox, MA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 25th at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. Ethel grew up in Rochester, NY and her life was shaped early on. She was one of eight children and even into her later years recalled, “we never had a penny, but always knew we were loved.” Because of that, Ethel was always kind and generous to everyone.
Ethel was also a gifted athlete. In her prime, she was a champion bowler, a great tennis player, champion Bridge player and a very lucky fisherman! In her later years, Ethel enjoyed sitting by the ocean, going out to lunch with her daughter, feeding the birds, and listening to her favorites,
Englebert Humperdink (The Last Waltz), and Don Ho (Tiny Bubbles) with a glass of pink wine in hand.
Ethel met her life-long love, Frank K. Faulkner, at age 17. As she told it, he said, “marry me, and I will love you forever.” And he did!!! They shared 65 wonderful years together. Among the many activities they enjoyed doing together, were playing tennis and going fishing on their boat. Most of all, though, they enjoyed spending time with family. Ethel and Frank had two children: Son Brian (Sandi), and daughter Sue (John), five grandchildren: Patrick (Linda), Haley (Kevin),
Molly, Jack, and Linnea, as well as two great grandchildren, Axton and Aiden. Ethel was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was, after all, quite a character.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank, in 2015, and survived by two sisters, Grace and Marie of Rochester, NY.
In respect of her wishes, Ethel was cremated with no formal services. In November, her family will be having a Celebration of Ethel and Frank’s Life, in Newport. We would like to thank everyone at the Newport Hospital, RI Hospital, and especially the staff at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center for their kindness, caring, and compassion thru this difficult time. We would also like to thank the kind people at
Olson and Parent Funeral Home.
