Funeral and Cremation Services
Robert L. Burns, Sr., 77, of Coventry Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation passed away on Friday, August 26, 2011.

Born and raised in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Mary Katherine (Reddington) and Lucius Sargeant Burns. He was the brother of Alma Reilly, of North Smithfield, RI and Lynne McAvoy of North Wildwood, NJ, and the late Marilyn Scally of Cumberland, RI. He is survived by 17 nieces and nephews.

Bob was a 1951 graduate of Cumberland High School. He attended Boston College and served in The United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was an Auxiliary member of the RI State Police and a member of American Legion Post #15. He worked for many years as a Fire Inspector for Grinnell and Peabody Insurance Companies.

Prior to his move to Coventry Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, Bob was cared for by his loving daughter-in-law, Charlene Burns.

Bob is survived by his five children, Rachael Burns Hunsinger, of Hudson Falls, NY, Lynn Dittmeier, of Stuart, FL, Susan Verrier, of West Warwick, Robert L. Burns, Jr. and his wife Charlene, of North Kingstown, and Brian Burns of Salt Lake City, UT, and 9 grandchildren.

May he rest in peace.

A private service will be held for the immediate family.
