Bruce M. Winn, well-known ceramic artist of Tiverton, RI, died on January 17, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. His husband Michael Roseberry was at his side. He will be remembered as a loving companion, an inspired creator and a nurturing teacher.Bruce was born in East Windsor, Connecticut to Fred and Barbara Winn on April 12, 1959, and was the youngest of four boys. At age six he saw a pottery demonstration and decided on the spot to be a potter. He received his BFA from the Program in Artisanry at Boston University in 1983, studying under Richard Hirsh and Christopher Gustin. In 1988, Bruce earned his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art studying under Graham Marks. He also taught at the Rhode Island School of Design and Bennington College. In 2002 he filled the Koopman Distinguished Chair at the University of Hartford Art School. In 1997, Bruce and his partner Michael Roseberry started the artisanal ceramics company Roseberry-Winn Pottery in Providence, RI. After several years of selling their work to retailers including L.L.Bean, Garnet Hill Catalog, Barney's, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the couple moved to Tiverton, RI in 2002 to open their own store in historic Tiverton Four Corners. At that time, their design and production studio moved to Fall River, MA, and the artists added a tile collection to the existing line of decorative and functional ceramics.  On October 30th, 2010 the couple was married in Litchfield, CT in a beautiful ceremony down the road from Bruce’s family homestead. Bruce’s artwork can be found among the collections at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Stockholm Royal Palace and the Newark Museum.
