Gilbert Bolster Obituary

Gilbert C. Bolster of Coventry, Rhode Island, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, age 58. He was a successful business owner, avid golfer and lifelong boater. Born in Syracuse, NY, he moved a couple of times as a child before coming to Rhode Island in the 60’s. He grew up in Barrington and graduated from Tabor Academy. He loved skiing during this time and skied all over New England, including Tuckerman’s Ravine. He also was able to attend the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, NY.His company, Housecall Computers, was a thriving and popular alternative solution for small to medium business instead of hiring a dedicated IT department.  He had owned his own business for over 20 years. He once shot a hole-in-one at Bully Rock golf course in Maryland. Nicknamed “television” by a jealous golfer for his excellent driving, he was active in many charitable tournaments and had started spending winters south to keep playing. He was a Coast Guard certified waterman.  He fished and dug for clams as a teenager, then went on to compete and win several sailboat races, including Block Island Race week with a great crew on the C&C 41, Hurricane. He returned to fishing and bought a series of larger boats, the latest a Mako 25 center-console named Hooligan. He loved taking his nieces out on the water for a day of sun and tubing. He also enjoyed camping, especially at Sebago Lake in Maine, with friends and family. Always outgoing and personable, he spent the past three winters in Key West, Florida with yet another group of good friends for golf and fishing instead of cold and snow. While he did travel out of New England, the Patriots and Red Sox were always dear to him.  He attended many games of each, including the first two wins of the 2004 American League Division Series against the New York Yankees, en route to the Red Sox first World Series win in 86 years. He is survived by his father, Donald W. Bolster and step-mother, Dorothy Bolster, of Laconia, New Hampshire; his older brother Davison G. Bolster of Warren, Rhode Island; and his younger brother and family; Jay,  Susan, and Quinn Bolster of Portland, Maine, as well as three step-siblings, many cousins, and dozens of friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Beverly J. Bolster and his niece Hope J. Bolster. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM, October 14th, at Swan Point Cemetery. 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, RI.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Jimmy Fund.
