Alexander Smith-Fay Obituary

Alexander George Thiebault Smith-Fay, also known as Achie to his family, came into this world on July 22, 1998, and passed away September 15, 2022. He was born on Long Island, and at the age of two, he and his parents moved to Orleans on Cape Cod. He spent his summers in France, where he enjoyed time with his father's family, the Fays; and Thanksgivings in the US with his mother's Smith relatives.

Alex was involved as a cub scout and matured to be a boy scout. He took sailing lessons, attended Brewster Day Camp, and played football with the Bluefins and Nauset. He also wrestled for Nauset, and became an accomplished weight-lifter. He hit the slopes, first on skis and later took to snowboarding. In the middle of winter, he wore shorts! He graduated from Nauset Regional High School in 2016.

Alex had a strong work ethic. As a teenager, he got his first job at The Hot Chocolate Sparrow, finding and enjoying the camaraderie of his co-workers. He had an independent spirit from a young age, riding his bike around town to work and to the gym. He also worked at Staples, Papa Gino's pizza as a delivery driver, and was a salesman at Trugreen. In his last job at Trinity Solar, he marketed solar energy, which he truly believed in. He won the Top Rookie North Field Marketing award, a demonstration of his commitment to the job and its impacts.

Alex, from the get go, was kind, creative, and gifted with a wonderful imagination. Surrounded by his stuffed animals he bounced up and down on his trampoline. He led his cousins in wonderful, make-believe games. His smile lit up the room. A gentle soul, he also thoroughly enjoyed a practical joke, such as the proper placement of a whoopy cushion or an exploding Mother's Day card. He put his creativity and humor to good use when joining his aunt and cousins on ski trips out west. He induced laughter that made stomachs ache!

Alex took to business. As a young teenager he frequented thrift stores, flea markets, yard sales, and the "Gift Barn" at the dump. He had an unerring eye for finding things that he could resell. This passion started early: he cried all the way home when made to leave after his first visit to a flea market...at the age of two!

Alex grew up just across the street from Crystal Lake. He was dipped into it for his christening. He went on to swim in it, kayak in it, and may even have iced skated on the lake (rock night at the iceskating rink was better).

Alex struggled with addiction. He waged a valiant war and fought hard. At the time of his death, he was working to get off all support so as to be able to travel to France to see his father. He was full of plans but sadly they were cut short. We believe he is now at peace and his soul is happy.

Alex's memory lives on with his mother Georgia Gold, formerly Smith-Fay; his father Pierre-Francois Fay; his brother, Thiebault Geyer; his first cousins Mateo and Sofia Fretes; his second cousins Taylor and Travis Fox and their families; his grandmothers Jennifer Fay and Sarah Readle; his aunt and great aunts Marianne Fay, Katherine Fox, and Lucy Bates; and his extended Smith family.
