Claudia Ann (Perry) Powell Passed away on October 1, 2021, of extended illness. Claudia was born on September 25, 1948, in Newport, Rhode Island to Joseph Silvia Perry and Marguerite C. Borsare Perry. Claudia is pre-deceased by her husband William T. Powell, Jr. who passed on February 28, 2018. Claudia was the oldest of her siblings, three of whom are deceased, Lenard J. Perry, Michael A. Perry and Tourjee M. Perry Pydynkowski. Claudia has one surviving brother Joseph S. Perry III.
Claudia is survived by three daughters Nikie Lynn Powell King, Michelle Jean Powell, and Billie Jo Marie Powell Buehring. Eight grandchildren Alexander Kores, Mathew Kores, Amber Kores Geer, George Hauser Jr, Ericha Hauser, Dalton Stone, Jessica Buehring Handley, Madison White. Eleven great grandchildren, Alexander, Kyla, Seth, Wyatt, Lilliana, Christian, William, Isabelle, Aurora, Mason, and Maya.
Claudia spent her youth in Middletown and Newport, “hanging out” at Kings Park, she met and later married William (Bill) at Saint Mary’s Church in 1967. They moved to Alaska in 1968 where Bill was stationed while in the Air Force, returning to Newport in 1970. In 1978 Claudia and Bill purchased a home in Hope Valley, Rhode Island where they raised their family and resided until their deaths.
Claudia worked a variety of jobs including Electric Boat, waitressing, Stop & Shop and retiring from Wells Works as accountant/office manager.
Claudia and Bill loved their family, instilling in their children strong work ethic, compassion and responsibility and the importance of family and respect for others.
Some of Claudia’s Passions were knitting, crocheting, painting and drawing. On Sundays Claudia and Bill would take “drives in the old Chevy” or go out on the motorcycles. They enjoyed going to car shows, antiquing and finding new restaurants to try along the way.
Claudia enjoyed taking rides over to Newport with her daughters and grandchildren where she would reminisce of her younger days telling stories of her family’s history, and all the fun had as a teenager. Claudia and Bill would take their family to Fort Adams picnicking or taking the boat out to Rose Island for the day.
Claudia loved her home where she spent many hours making lasting memories with her family. Holidays were very special to Claudia, Halloween being her favorite. Claudia loved decorating her yard and enjoyed making costumes for her family.
