Evan Jones was born on March 2, 1939, in Providence, Rhode Island to Frank P. and Helen R. Jones. He was a former resident of Hamilton, Massachusetts and lived most recently in Charlestown, Rhode Island.

Evan was a graduate of Newton High School, Harvard College where he was a member of the Harvard Lampoon and from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

He served proudly in the United Stated Coast Guard from 1961 to 1965.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Thomas R. Jones, his sister Emlen Jones O'Keeffe and his brother-in-law Michael A. O'Keeffe.

He was the beloved husband of Catherine Whelton Jones for 62 years. He is also survived by three daughters: Tammy Jones of Ipswich, Massachusetts, Anne H. Jones of Thomas, West Virginia and Bronwen Jones (Lee Navlen) of East Orange, New Jersey. He leaves three grandchildren: Elijah, Charlotte and Phoebe (Charles), a great granddaughter Zanetta, his sister-in-law Judith D. Jones of Bowie Maryland and cousin Patricia Jones of New York City. He leaves many other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Evan died at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence on December 27, 2023 after a long bout with cancer faced with characteristic grace and courage.

Funeral services were held at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
