James Peter Verity, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully at Steere House on Saturday, May 16, 2020.
Peter, as he was known to all, was born September 25, 1931, in Shipley, Yorkshire, England. He was the son of James Verity and Alice (Walker) Shipman and brother to Leonard Shipman. Peter served honorably in the Royal Air Force. He later moved to America at the age of 20 and settled in Rhode Island with his mother and stepfather, Frank Shipman. He worked as a tool engineer for Brown and Sharp for many years. During which time, he met and married Elaine Verity (Mazzeo) and had four children, all residing in Rhode Island. Rebecca Verity of Richmond, James Verity of Providence, Heidi Rivard of Smithfield and Stephanie Verity of North Providence. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Kyle Rivard, Nigel Ragan and Nicholas Lizotte.
Peter went on to sell sporting goods as an independent salesman. He retired and over his years, lived in multiple locations globally from California to New Zealand. Peter was a Renaissance Man. He taught himself to play the guitar and piano. He always had a camera in his hand, snapping pictures of his grandchildren, flowers from his garden and many shots of nature on his many hikes. He drew, painted, was an avid reader and movie buff. His sharp wit and intelligence will be forever missed.
A private ceremony will be held for immediate family.
