Jean Margaret Stanton Farley, 84, of Green Hill Beach, RI, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2020. Jean was born on March 27, 1936 to Fred and Hortense Stanton, in Newton, Massachusetts. After residing in Manchester, NH, her family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1948, and she graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1954. Jean attended Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, and graduated in 1958 with a degree in American History. She spent the next several years in Hanover, NH and Chicago, IL, where she earned her Master’s Degree in Education and taught elementary school. Her daughters Marilyn and Pamela followed soon after, and she turned her focus to taking classes in textile arts, creating an artists’ studio for weaving and basketry, and teaching classes through the years. In 1991, she moved from her long-time home in Dobbs Ferry, NY to her house by the ocean in Green Hill Beach, RI, and established a new community of friends. Jean was creative, smart and a good friend to many. She enjoyed meeting new people and loved her cats, garden, house and beach in Green Hill. She is survived by her daughters Marilyn, and her husband Michael Drooff, and Pamela, along with her beloved grandchildren Connor and Caroline Drooff, and her brother David Stanton. She was predeceased by her brother Peter Stanton.
A memorial service will be planned early in 2021.
