Jerome "Jerry" Burk, 86, of Smithfield, RI, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Briarcliffe Manor in Johnston, surrounded by his children. He was the loving husband of the late Ruth (Lapteff) Burk, and will be greatly missed by his children Kevin Burk and Karyn Kirylo.

Born in Amboy, Illinois, Jerry was the son of the late Raymond and Rose Hillison. Jerry served in the Navy for two years and met his wife Ruth while in port in Providence. They tied the knot eight months later and were happily married for 60 years.

Jerry worked as an office manager in the trucking industry before retiring in 2003.

Jerry was a long-time resident of Scenic View Drive in Smithfield; he was a cherished member of his neighborhood, and could often be seen outside caring for his well-manicured lawn. After the passing of his wife Ruth, he found solace caring for his rescue dogs Bowie and Max. Jerry loved spending time with his family and his absence will be deeply felt during future family gatherings.

Besides his children, Kevin (and his wife Laurie) and Karyn, he is survived by his grandchildren, Macayla Barsomian, Cynthia Horikawa, Gregory Burk and Melynda Flanagan, and great grandchild, Piper Flanagan.

His funeral will be a private ceremony, remembering Jerry in the presence of close family.
