Joan DeLyon, our beloved mother, sister and friend passed away on May 31, 2021, at the age of 68. She was born on August 30, 1952, to Charles and Joan (Buteau) Robichaud in Pawtucket, RI.
Joan was a fiercely independent woman who dedicated so much of her life to the love and prosperity of her family and children. A lover of animals, cats especially, one of her greatest joys was spoiling our furry friends. She was outspoken and always wore her heart on her sleeve, with fiery passion and a vivacious personality. A talented artist through her life, always doodling, drawing, painting pumpkins on Halloween - Joan gave up her RISD scholarship to dedicate her life to her family instead. In her youth, she would love to party and gallivant at the Marriott with her sisters, always into fun and mischief. She was ever the free spirit and lived her entire life on her own terms. Those terms were clear: if she brought you into her life, she trusted you, she loved you. Her intense love and passion ripples like waves through her children, Sherri, born March 13, 1972. Her son, Justin, came much later in life but no less in love on March 1,1988. Through the advent of her children her entire life was changed, they became the power of her love was incredible: even as she suffered through illness, she was caregiver of a longtime friend suffering with her own health problems, right to the end.
She leaves behind her children, Justin and Sherri, a brother, Chucky, sisters Paula, Tracy, and Kelly. In addition, many aunts, uncles, niece Lynn, nephew Christopher, and cousins. She would also love to mention her cat "punkin" who was with her for many years and her cat "puddy" who is still missing her.
Inspired by her love and dedication, her children leave you with a poem taken in her memory:
"When the day comes that there are no more
tomorrows for me, one of my greatest regrets it will be,
not being able to be with you by your side,
in the times when you should need me.
My wish for you, it will then always be,
that your lives are the most long and healthy.
My greatest joy could ever be,
that you follow your dreams,
wherever they may lead."
A Memorial gathering honoring Joan will take place at Olson and Parent Funeral Home (417 Plainfield Street, Providence, RI) on Monday, June 7, 2021 from 4:00 -7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to the Pawtucket Animal Shelter in her name for her life long love of animals.
