Johanna Kramer Becker, a 40 year resident of Hamden, CT, died on January 8, 2024. Born in New York, February 8, 1939, and raised in Queens by her parents, Herman and Charlotte Rose Kramer, Johanna attended the NY Society for Ethical Culture as a child, then Bard College (1960), and earned a PhD in Psychology at NYU (1967). She enjoyed a multi-faceted career as a psychologist in private practice, in crisis intervention, and as Supervising Psychologist of Mental Health Services at the Manson Youth Institution. She volunteered with numerous civic groups, including the Sleeping Giant Park Association and the Yale University Women's Organization. She traveled the world in her retirement, pursuing arts, crafts, and culture. Johanna was predeceased by her long-time partner, Jack Dillon, and leaves behind her son Austin, and two grandchildren, Olive and Toby. With regular attendance at their church of choice (the Sunday flea market), Jack and Johanna's delight and expertise in thriftiness will forever be unmatched.
A celebration of Johanna's life will be held in Hamden in the Spring.
Memorial donations may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center or the Sleeping Giant Park Association.
