Joseph L. Fougere, 92, peacefully passed away at age 92 on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Greenwood Center in Warwick, RI. He is survived by his children Kathleen Fernandes of Warwick, RI, Joseph (Ellen) of Colchester, CT, Gerald (Elisabeth) of The Villages, FL, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Norma (Diaferia) Fougere, his parents, Louis and Helen Fougere, sisters, Helen (Francis) Hunter and Mary (Charles) Hunter, and brother, Paul Fougere.
Joe was born in Cambridge, MA on February 20, 1927. After marriage, he lived primarily in Watertown and Waltham, MA and most recently in Warwick, RI to be closer to family. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater stationed aboard the USS Westmoreland. For many years Joe owned and operated Lynn Alignment Auto Body in Lynn, MA.
He loved photography, almost anything creative, and a good dry Grey Goose martini. He was an avid reader and while in the nursing home he enjoyed drawing and creating works of art that he readily shared with his family, the staff, and other residents. Believe it or not, he actually liked playing bingo and pokeno at the nursing home.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 21st at Sophia’s Tuscan Grille, 1729 Warwick Avenue Warwick, RI from 12 PM - 3 PM.
There are no calling hours and the scattering of his ashes is private, therefore no flowers please.
Donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the Beacon Hospice, North Kingston, RI made payable to Amedisys Foundation, Meadows Professional Office Park, 1130 Ten Rod Road, Suite A205, North Kingstown, RI 02852.
