**In Loving Memory of Karl Warner Von Clegg, Sr.**

 

Karl Warner Von Clegg, born on June 12th, 1950, in New Rochelle, NY, passed away November 28th, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. He was the beloved son of the late Merold Clegg and Ola Mae (Phillips) Clegg, and is survived by his seven children, Karl Warner Von Clegg, Jr., Rebecca N. Von Clegg-Bouchalha, Ambre K. Tomlinson, Tamara E. von Ash, Aadam M. Clegg, Danielle M. Clegg and Miriam A. Flanagan. Karl was a loving grandfather of nine and great grandfather of one. He was the brother of the late Joan Carter and the late Tommy Clegg, and is survived by his two younger sisters, Karen Clegg and Deborah Clegg.

Karl's early life was marked by a unique beginning, conceived in Germany during his father's service in the United States Army. Growing up, he watched his father, a painter and contractor, inspiring in him a strong work ethic and a drive for success. Karl spoke fondly of his mother, recalling her warmth and the nostalgic taste of her cooking.

In his professional journey, Karl worked in human services and as a Parole Officer in New York City before relocating to Rhode Island to be closer to his family. His dedication and resilience were evident throughout his career.

A man of many passions, Karl found joy in restoring old cars, particularly vintage Datsun Z's, and was a former pilot. He was an avid writer, currently working on multiple books about his experiences in criminal justice and his life growing up. Karl had a unique ability to teach and share profound insights, captivating the attention of those around him.

Karl's commitment to family was unwavering. He believed in the values of hard work and education, instilling these principles in his children and pushing them to succeed. Despite facing health challenges later in life, Karl remained resilient, fighting to maintain his well-being.

His connection to the Native American and Black communities was profound, and Karl actively sought ways to uplift and support his people, He stood firm in his belief that standing for something was essential to avoid falling for anything.

In addition to his serious demeanor, Karl had a playful side. He cherished moments of laughter with his children and grandchildren, often joking in silly voices and sharing funny stories from his career.

Karl Warner Von Clegg leaves behind a legacy of determination, resilience, and a commitment to family and community. His impact will be remembered by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

In accordance with Karl’s wishes, there will not be a wake or funeral service. Instead, a celebration of Karl’s remarkable life will be organized for after the new year. This gathering will be an opportunity for family and friends to come together, share memories, and honor Karl’s legacy.
