Maria Rosario (Vidal) Paruta, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and in the hands of the compassionate staff of HopeHealth in Providence, RI on July 28, 2023. Many of Maria's friends knew her by the name Charito. She was the loving and dedicated wife of the late Dr. Anthony (Tony) N. Paruta. Charito was born and raised in Manila, Phillippines. She was the daughter of the late Genaro and Pilar (Panilio) Vidal.
After Charito graduated from college of Santo Tomas she was hired and taught Chemistry and Botany to Pre-Med nursing students. After teaching for five years, she was inspired by the Lord and came to the United States in 1958 to earn her Masters Degree in Pharmacy at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She earned her degree in 1961. She helped open Syntex Laboratory in 1960. She met Tony Paruta, in 1959, at Rutgers University where he was earning his PhD in Pharmacy. They had a whirlwind romance and Tony proposed to Charito after six weeks. They were married in 1961. Tony and Charito had four children. Charito dedicated her life to raising their children for 27 years. After the children were grown, she went back to work for many years. Eventually she and Tony split their time between their home in Narragansett, RI and Englewood, FL. They became permanent Floridians in 1997. She was a devout Catholic who was a very talented artist and singer. She enjoyed her painting classes as well as singing in the church choir at St. Thomas Moore in Narragansett.
She is survived by her loving family, Michael, Marty, Marc, Terrie, Gina, Diana, Daniela, Julia, Arianna, Annalisa, Joyce, Vince,Sydney, Kalani, Nicholas, Luc, Adrian and Benjamin.
Services will be held at St. Raymond's Church, 1240 N. Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m
A Celebration of Life will be held at Chelo's, 505 Silver Spring Street, Providence, RI 02904 after the service.
