Martin Schneider Obituary

Martin Schneider Jr. 80, of Barrington, RI, passed away quietly on May 13th, 2022. He was visited by family and friends throughout the week before his passing.

Martin was born on July 22, 1941 in Heidendorf, Romania. He was the middle child of Martin and Maria Schneider. The family immigrated to America in 1952 shortly after the second world war, eventually settling in Ohio near others of Saxon decent. Marty, as called by friends, graduated high school in Niles, Ohio. He then enlisted in the US Army, proudly serving his country overseas during the tense times between the Korean and Vietnam wars, until his honorable discharge in 1962. Gifted in understanding and repairing mechanical systems, Martin began working for Ditto Inc, as a field engineer.

A few years later, Martin married Carolyn L. Struck on May 3rd, 1964 at the Howland Community Church in Warren, Ohio. Bell & Howell bought Ditto and offered Marty a transfer to New England. So, Marty and Carol moved to the East Bay area. There he worked for Bell & Howell repairing office equipment throughout southeastern New England for forty years.

Marty and Carol attended Saint James Lutheran church in Barrington, RI. Aside from church and work, he spent time with friends playing billiards, cards and bowling; caring for pets and tinkering with cars and clocks and anything mechanical. He also had a witty mind for puzzles and loved telling jokes. He enjoyed listening to Paul Harvey, Rush Limbaugh and other news/talk radio as well as the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

Martin was predeceased by his wife Carol a few years ago. He is survived by his three sons; the eldest son Scott Martin Schneider and wife Karyn, along with their four children Joshua and wife Katie of Chicago, Andrew, Emily and Benjamin Schneider of Massachusetts. Martin's middle son is Daren Michael Schneider and wife Audrey Susan McPherson of Pennsylvania, and Martin's youngest son is Brian George Schneider of Rhode Island.

Martin has two surviving sisters; his older sister Maria Heath, married to the late Joe Heath, Sr and their three surviving children; Joe Jr, Maria and husband Clay Riffle, Kathleen and husband Jim Hoagland, as well as predeceased son Michael Heath - all of Maryland and Martin's younger sister Martha, married to the late Roger Melvin of West Virginia along with their three children; Christeen Talbot and husband George of Florida, Debbie Ferri and husband Bob of Texas and Cindy Greger and husband Don of Maryland. Martin is also survived by several cousins along with great nieces and nephews in the US and abroad.

A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Martin will be held at 10:30am Saturday, July 16th, 2022 at the Redwood Chapel in Swan Point Cemetery in Providence RI. Pastor Howard DeVries will officiate. A dinner with family and friends will follow in Martin's honor. Flowers may be sent to: Olson & Parent Funeral Home, 417 Plainfield Street, Providence, RI 02909.

A favorite passage of Martin's is the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13:
Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
