Mary Fitzelle-Jones Obituary

Mary Fitzelle-Jones, of Warwick RI, passed away on Wednesday May 17th, surrounded by family and loved ones. Born in Warwick RI, she was the daughter of George T. Fitzelle and Constance P. Fitzelle.

Mary Fitzelle-Jones had a lifelong dedication to social justice and social work. Starting right after college, she worked for InFACT, a social and economic justice organization, and Boston Senior Home Care. After completing her Masters of Social Work at the University of Connecticut, she soon started her 30 year career with Thrive Behavioral Health (formerly the Kent Center), a community mental health center. During the course of her career, she was integral to the lives of her many clients and was a cornerstone of the organization. She never wavered in her commitment to providing the highest standard of care.

She had a vibrant, full, and impactful life. Her compassion, thoughtfulness, artistic flair, and strong sense of justice brought peace and inspiration to those around her. Mary had an affinity for nature and quiet reflection. She could often be found swimming at local lakes and ponds, riding her bike on RI paths, running through the neighborhood, or walking through the woods. Mary was also a talented, intuitive, and creative artist. She was particularly well known for her pottery and ceramic work. Her imaginative designs adorned every aspect of her life.

She is survived by her three children, Miriam Fitzelle-Jones of Warwick, RI, Emma Fitzelle-Jones of Boston, MA, and Jesse Fitzelle-Jones of Warwick, RI, as well as her partner Lisa Shalvey of Warwick, RI. She was the beloved daughter of Constance Fitzelle of Kingston, RI and the late George T. Fitzelle. She was the sister of Elizabeth Nuti of Wyckoff, NJ, and George Fitzelle of Fredericksburg, VA.

A memorial service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, June 3rd at Kingston Congregational Church in Kingston RI. All are welcome to attend. Burial will be private and visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Warwick Center for the Arts.

Remembrances and photos of Mary can be shared on the Olson & Parent Obituary Tribute Wall.
