Mary Ellen Aiello, 74, died on May 22, 2026, at Kent Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Reginald B. Woodleigh for over 10 years. Born in Newport, she was the daughter to the late Clara Lou (Adamson) and Joseph Anthony Aiello.
Mary was blessed with three daughters: Catherine Aiello of Northampton, MA, Sheila Lynch of Boston, MA, and Shannon Lynch of Providence, RI.
Mary graduated from Tiverton High School in 1969 before attending Boston University. She spent a semester in London before graduating in 1973. She loved her work as a costume designer at Trinity Repertory Company in Providence and returned to Boston University as a Costume Instructor from 1976-1982. She was accomplished, smart and skilled at designing and sewing, creating everything from slipcovers and Halloween costumes to wedding gowns. Mary continued to support children and youth as a teacher in Massachusetts and New Mexico.
She will also be remembered as a fabulous cook.
Mary grew up with her siblings Ginny, Joe, John and James and her late sister Beth. She will be missed by her grandchildren: Leah, Faith, Abby, D.J., Brielle and Ahmir, who brought her endless joy.
Her daughter Shannon recalls, "She poured love into everything she touched and nurtured those around her endlessly. Her hands were rarely still, always working on something thoughtful and beautiful. She had a special gift for making anywhere feel like home, bringing warmth, comfort, and beauty wherever she went. Her love and gentle presence shaped our lives forever."
A Celebration of Mary's life will take place at a family home in the future.
Burial is private.
