Nancy Elizabeth (Bergmann) Bump

Nancy Elizabeth Bergmann Bump passed away on October 7, 2021.  She was 89.  She was born in Lewiston, Maine and grew up in New Haven, CT, the daughter of Henry and Marion (Chaffin) Bergmann.  After graduating from Hill House High in New Haven, she made the journey by train to attend Bates College, her parents’ alma mater, in Lewiston, Maine, where she earned a degree in Chemistry.  While there she made many dear friends and enjoyed the winters in Maine, including sledding on Mt David and attending football games.  Upon graduating she took a job as a coatings chemist at the former Chemical Products company in East Providence, RI.  It was there that she met the handsome and personable office boy, Bronson Bump, who would become her beloved husband of 64 years.  They married on December 26, 1957, a day chosen so as not to interfere with televised sporting events and moved into their home in Rehoboth, MA, a former farm, complete with barn and woodlands, the perfect setting for future children, grandchildren and many pets.   As Bronson’s career blossomed, Nancy stayed at home to raise their three children.  Once the children were grown, Nancy first volunteered then took a job in the Rehoboth schools, working with children experiencing learning challenges.   She and Bronson retired in 1992 and enjoyed many travel adventures across the US in their RV.  They returned to her cherished Maine at least once each year from 1965 through 2014 and shared its magic with their children and grandchildren.  The family’s memories of Bronson and Nancy will forever be entwined with the natural beauty, peace and majesty of Maine and the serenity of their home in Rehoboth.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Bronson Booth Bump.  She is survived by her three children, Elizabeth Dorff and husband Peter, Susan Rodrigues and husband Eduardo, and Keith Bump.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Katina Simmons and husband Mark, Zachary Rodrigues, Willem Dorff and partner Hannah Knight, Samantha Rodrigues and partner Derek Robbie, and Evaline Rodrigues.
