Nita J. Askew, lover of life, dedicated family member and amazing friend to many died at home, Thursday, September 30, 2021 after succumbing to her second battle with cancer. Nita was born on May 20, 1952 in Providence, RI to Margret (Hagopian) Askew and Stanley Askew. Little did they realize that Nita would grow to be a woman who had the unique talent to make everyone feel they are the most important person she knew. Her love of family and friends was so profound that her memory will live on forever.
Nita was a hard-working person who often stated she would work till the day she died. Nita held numerous positions, most recently working for Texas Instrument, Gillette and Proctor and Gamble. Her keen mechanical ability afforded her the opportunity to rapidly advance in manufacturing, obtaining leadership positions, specializing in machine operations and repair. There was no construction or mechanical challenge that Nita could not resolve.
Her desire to help her family and friends was without limit and she often placed others' needs before her own. To have known Nita was to experience what it meant to have a dear true friend who could be relied on to always have your back.
Nita's love of life and sense of humor was contagious. Ready with a joke, smile and support were her trademark traits. To know Nita was to understand how important you are and how special your place in her life and the world was. Her personal selflessness extended to absolute generosity that was an expression of her love. If you had the good fortune to know Nita you have many wonderful stories of shared adventures.
Nita loved to travel visiting many foreign countries as well as numerous trips throughout the United States. She was an ardent Red Soxs and Patriots fan, enjoying baseball games in Boston and football in Foxboro. Nita enjoyed collecting Coke memorabilia, including Coke bottles from around the world.
Nita is survived by her brother, Stanley Askew, Jr and his wife Linda, her uncle Richard Hagopian and his wife Sue, niece Cheryl Galli and her husband Dallas, niece Sarah Thomas, and nephew David Askew. Always holding a special place in her heart are her great nephew William Galli and great niece Lillian Galli. Also, her great nephew Maverick Thomas and great niece Jazmine Tyson; numerous cousins, their spouses and children. Of her many friends is Markos Samos, who had honor and privilege of maintaining a special relationship with Nita for 61 years.
Nita was a once in a lifetime special and generous person whose memory will live on through the people who loved her.
