Priscilla Galvin Obituary

Priscilla Jane (Bartlett) Galvin, 76, died Sunday July 12, 2020 at her home in Portsmouth, RI. Priscilla was born in Natick, MA to the late Ernest and Eleanor (Hughes) Bartlett. She had previously been a longtime resident of Sudbury, MA.

She is survived by her husband Robert Galvin, her son David Woods and his wife Laura Davis of Norfolk, VA and her daughter Laura and her husband David Schmidt of Fitchburg, MA. She is also survived by her beloved grandsons Nicholas Woods of Seattle, WA and Joseph Woods and his fiancée Maddie Hill of Philadelphia, PA, her sister Susan and her husband Michael Porter of Hopkinton, MA, brother Allen and his wife Lynn Bartlett of Uxbridge, MA, sister Joan Bartlett-Gilbert of Waitsfield, VT, sister-in-law Alice Bartlett of Hopkinton, MA and many nieces and nephews.

She also leaves her amazing friends and caregivers Cornelius Henry, Andrea Henry, and Debbie Iamarone, as well as Andrea’s husband Curtis Henry.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her sister Carolyn and brother-in-law Bruno Ribotto, sister Janet and brother-in-law William Higgins, brother Donald Bartlett, brother-in-law Fred Gilbert, and her much loved daughter-in-law Jodie Woods.

The family would like to thank the ARA Dialysis Centers of Fall River, MA and Tiverton, RI for the compassionate and gentle care Priscilla received.

Priscilla was raised in Natick, graduating from Natick High School in 1962. She attended Framingham State College (now University) before taking time to raise her children.

She had a long and successful career in administration, notably at Food Dynamics in Wellesley and Natick before pursuing her passion for teaching. She finished her bachelor’s degree at Framingham State and earned a Master’s Degree at Boston College.

She began her true calling teaching Sociology at Framingham State. Her caring and desire to impart knowledge was communicated to her students, whom she cared for deeply. Her finest moment was when a student would “get it” and fall in love with Sociology as she had.

Bob and Priscilla retired to Bonita Springs, FL, and spent summers in Portsmouth, RI, fulfilling their desire to be by the sea. A favorite vacation spot was often Cabo San Luca where they made many friends.

She and Bob were the quintessential hosts, throwing elaborate parties every summer and hosting Christmas for family and friends.

Priscilla and her sisters, often with her elderly mother along, traveled throughout New England, enjoying love, laughter, and fun.

After her cremation, Priscilla’s service will be private. A celebration of her life will be held at her Portsmouth residence at a future date.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Priscilla’s memory to The American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org or P.O. Box 15829 Arlington, VA 22215.

Arrangements are under the care of Olson and Parent Funeral Home, 417 Plainfield Street, Providence, RI 02909.
