Priscilla L. Steadman, 93, of Providence, Rhode Island, died April 16, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Frederick Lloyd Steadman. Their love story is family legend.
Born in the historic Ansel Gurney House in Marion, Massachusetts, in June, 1932. Daughter of the late Mary Blanche Dodge and Willard T. Gifford, step daughter to Fred Hall, and Jack Dodge.
She was a treasured member of the First Baptist Church in Providence, holding several key positions within the congregation over the years. She was a valued community member in city of Providence, particularly with the school department. She was Providence school program coordinator for just say no to drugs. She was a human resource counsellor at Central High School so appreciated by the students that they dedicated the 1984 yearbook to her. She retired with her husband to Florida in 1988. In 2003 they returned to Providence to be closer to family.
She leaves two sons Frederick Jr, and Paul Steadman, and her brother, Harry Gifford. She is pre-deceased by her husband Lloyd, sisters: Dorothy Hutchnson and Elenor Vieira, and brothers: Roger Gifford and Irwin (Babe) Gifford, and grandson, Frederick Steadman III.
She also leaves two grandchildren Brandie Farrell, and Paul Steadman Jr. and five great grandchildren Calvin, Margaret, Mason, Frederick IV, and Emily. Family spouses and former spouses. She also leaves her beloved self adopted daughter Lydia Brown. She is beloved by all including her many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
She will be interred with her beloved husband Frederick Lloyd Steadman at Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.
