67, of North Providence, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Douglas Hinz. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Valentino and Alice (Sisto) Ariosto. She was also the stepdaughter to the late Rudolph Souza.

Besides her husband, she was the loving mother of Christyl Melendez, and her husband Ivan of Providence, and Derek Hinz, and his wife Melanie of East Providence, and cherished grandmother of Jaida, Dayanara, and Audrey.

Born with a rare genetic disorder, Valerie was known for her upbeat approach to life regardless of the obstacles she faced. She spoke her mind with refreshing candor, and her unique personality and brash sense of humor was appreciated by all who knew her.

After becoming a mother, Valerie spent many spring and summer days running the concession stand and signing children up for baseball with the North End Wanskuck Little League, where she met many lifelong friends and loved ones. The rest of her time was spent teaching hand sewing, compiling recipes into a cookbook, and fostering a creative and educational environment for her granddaughters, for whom her pride knew no bounds.

Vivacious and bold, Valerie spent her remaining years in Mineral Spring Gardens, where she was known to throw bustling holiday parties and provide a welcoming space to many of the tenants there. Anyone who crossed her path was touched by her kindness and eccentric attitude, making every experience with Valerie one that no one could ever forget.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at A Caring Experience, and Home Health and Hospice Care of Nursing Placement for their constant and compassionate care.

As per Valerie's wishes, there will be no visiting hours or additional services. She will be cremated, and the family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Valerie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
