Irene N. Soar, born on September 13, 1918 in Cumberland, died
peacefully on November 29, 2013 surrounded by the love of her family. She is predeceased by her parents, John W. and Mary A. Nolan, her husband, Robert N. Soar, and her siblings, Marion Duckworth, John R. Nolan and Dorothy Seay, and her best friend, Eileen Barney. She is survived by her brother, George Nolan, and her four daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Robert Stephenson, Pamela and Paul Goulet, Debra and John Firth, and Linda and Alan Gagnon, her grandchildren, Rob, Doug, Susan, Rachel, Peter, Kevin, Annie and Liza, and her honorary grandson, Richard, and five great-grandchildren.
Irene grew up in Cumberland and graduated from the high school at age 15. She lived in Pawtucket all of her adult life before moving to Epoch Assisted Living on Blackstone three years ago. She loved spending time with her family, especially enjoying the holidays and activities with her grandchildren, proudly caring for her yard until she was almost 90, and watching the Red Sox, although she hated their beards. Among other jobs, Irene worked at Brown University’s Career Development Office from 1974 to 1997.
The family wants to sincerely thank the staff of Epoch on Blackstone and Home & Hospice for their exceptional, compassionate care.
