Direct Cremation

A direct cremation includes transfer of deceased from place of death, sheltering of remains, local transportation to crematory, and the necessary services of staff and authorizations. Green cremations differ in that when a green cremation is selected, an alternative container is made of paper with a solid wood bottom instead of the traditional materials like fiberboard or composition materials that may contain synthetic glues and metal components. A paper and wood container results in a cleaner burn with less emissions. Olson & Parent Funeral Home considers a cremation to be “green” when the body is not embalmed before the cremation, the cremation container is made from natural components, and the use of a certified green urn.

At Olson & Parent, we have always included the cremation fee when choosing a cremation at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, RI. This fee does not include any attendant rites or ceremonies or cash advance items, such as certified copies of death certificates. A direct cremation service also includes a biodegradable urn if you do not choose an urn from our collection.

As of May 1, 2019, when a family chooses a green cremation, a small tree will be given to the family in memory of their loved one. It has been determined, during the trees lifetime it will offset the pollution generated by the one cremation.
